Christianity is a religion of love

Very Rev. Dr Fr James Athikalam MST
A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GENERAL OF MST

Christianity is a religion of love. It is borne out of the Trinitarian love manifested in the Incarnate Son of God Jesus Christ. He revealed to the world a God of love and shared His love to humanity through his words and deeds. The essence of mission is also love. Anyone who has a loving heart can be a good missionary.

In the world of today there is immense possibility for sharing the redeeming love of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Information Technology and digital media have opened new horizons to convey and reach the message of Good News to the millions of people even if they are scattered in different corners of the world. We must make use of every opportunity, every possibility to share the “Great Treasure” we have found. Pope Benedict XVI, in his message for the 44th World Communications Day, appeals to the priests to “make astute use of the unique possibilities offered by modern communications.”

In the same address Pope tells: “God’s loving care for all people in Christ must be expressed in the digital world not simply as an artifact from the past, or a learned theory, but as something concrete, present and engaging. Our pastoral presence in that world must thus serve to show our contemporaries, especially the many people in our day who experience uncertainty and confusion, “that God is near; that in Christ we all belong to one another”

We must remember that cyber space is not only a fertile means for spreading the civilization of love but at the same time it is a digital continent to be saturated with authentic love – love that is self-giving, love that is ennobling.

I appreciate ‘the mission’ blog (www.soundofmission.blogspot.com) initiated by IMPACT team. It is a welcome initiative to reach the young minds to instill in them the values of the Gospel and mission zeal. I wholeheartedly congratulate Fr Anto Thattil on this new venture and wish this cyber evangelization every success. The digital world gets its inner force from the quality of love behind it. The wonderful blog of ‘the missionmust radiate the supreme love of Jesus Christ, the greatest lover of humankind.
